MODULE I : VIRTUAL DESIGN

This module is designed to introduce students to the role of visual design in media communication and how to integrate graphic elements in media design.    

Module Objectives: 

  • Apply the design principles for visual communication.

  • Integrate typography, graphic elements and images for visual design. 

  • Develop concept and idea to make motion graphics.

  • Integrate computer graphic skills to do media production.

  • Make a media design for visual communication.

MODULE 2 : NEW MEDIA DESIGN

Addressing the growing demand for media industry, this module focuses on specialist knowledge in areas such as design, web, online content and technology. Students will explore digital media creation skills to gain creative and digital media knowledge. Students should be able to understand the growing demands of New Media and the skills required in special areas of creative collaboration, concept development, Sound, Video and design. 

Module Objectives:

  • Develop good short story ideas.

  • To combine new media technology skills with creative ability to produce a final design. 

  • Understand the principles of Information Architecture design and apply them to any media project. Principles and techniques of usability, how one can exploit journalism techniques through web copy as well as the relationship between design and content and the way users consume Web Pages. 

  • To learn and apply Integrated Marketing Communications skills.

  • To combine new media technology skills with creative ability to execute campaign ideas. 

  • Familiar with the key concepts of editing.

  • Understand the fundamentals of video technology. 

  • Familiar with technical aspects of editor’s daily work. 

  • Familiarity with the IP laws which affect new media content and ownership.

MODULE 3 : STUDIO

This module is designed to train students to develop a professional portfolio that best profiles their creative strength. They will evaluate knowledge and skills acquired during the course and from the previous work experience in entering the digital media and design profession. The portfolio of work will best represent their creativity and skills in the course. Students will also have the opportunity to re-address previous projects and assignments for inclusion in their portfolios. Suggested career paths including social media, print, digital media, web and digital marketing will be reviewed. 

 

Module Objectives: 

  • To acquire a better knowledge of the Design Process.

  • To be able to plan, develop, present and promote a complete portfolio.

  • To be able to streamline the development process by converting wireframes into fully marked up, production quality portfolio.

  • To be able to tackle Copyright & Intellectual Property issues.

  • To be able to work independently. 

  • To be able to identify specified career paths and create portfolio for that specific industry.

  • To be able to examine techniques to create a marketable identity to present potential employers through packaging, branding and presentation of creative works.

  • To be able to create a set professional communication collaterals e.g. resume, cover letter, etc. 

  • To be able to prepare a digital profile.
